46 patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty were randomized to one of four groups: a highly-crosslinked polyethylene (HXLPE) liner in either a titanium or tantalum acetabular cup, or an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) liner in either a titanium or tantalum acetabular cup.
