Synopsis

75 patients who required primary hip replacement were randomized to receive either a hip resurfacing arthroplasty or a total hip replacement. The results of the study indicated that the mean bone mineral density in the calcar region increased after one year beyond the baseline levels in the hip resurfacing group, whereas there was a significant decrease in the bone mineral density in the THR group...
