48 patients scheduled to undergo total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive either a retransfusion drain or no drain. The results from peri-operative follow-up indicated that there were no significant differences between the two groups in regards to fall in hemoglobin, blood transfusion rate, and complication rates.
