Synopsis

Eighty-eight patients scheduled for an elective total hip arthroplasty for the treatment of osteoarthritis or osteonecrosis were randomized to receive a 1g intravenous dose of tranexamic acid or normal saline prior to skin incision for the reduction of blood loss.
