Synopsis
104 patients with extra-articular distal tibia fractures were randomized to receive either reamed intramedullary nail or a large fragment medial plate. Results from 12 month follow-up indicated that each group had 6 patients that developed deep infection. In addition, there was a trend towards greater rates of non-union in the nail group.
