Synopsis
190 patients undergoing total hip replacement were enrolled, and randomized to either receive two size 12 Medinorm vacuum drains or an ABTrans autologous re-transfusion system (post-operative salvage). The results at the mean 7 week follow up indicate that post-operative salvage results in a reduced need for homologous blood transfusion, following total hip replacement.
