Synopsis
42 patients (51 knees) undergoing primary total knee arthroplasty were randomly assigned to either receive a surgical procedure using a vastus-splitting approach or a median parapatellar approach. The results at the 5 year follow up period indicated that the vastus-splitting approach was an acknowledged and viable alternative to the median parapatellar approach.
