Synopsis

222 patients suffering from degenerative osteoarthritis were randomly assigned to undergo total knee arthroplasty (TKA) using either a posterior cruciate ligament retaining or substituting prosthesis. At a minimum follow-up of 5 years, both groups demonstrated excellent results with the only difference being greater knee flexion and range of motion in the ligament substituting group.
