21 patients with a closed EPL tendon rupture in zones T4 and T5 after undergoing an extensor indicis proprius tendon transfer were randomized to the postoperative physical therapy regimens; one group was treated with a dynamic protocol using a rubber-band system, and another group was allowed an early active thumb extension with limited flexion.
