Synopsis
1640 patients receiving surgical fixation for open extremity fractures were randomized to receive either 10% povidone-iodine or 4% chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) for antiseptic skin preparation. The primary outcome of this trial was surgical-site infection and the secondary outcome was unplanned fracture-related reoperation within 1 year.
