202 patients over the age of 50 with symptomatic radiologically confirmed vertebral compression fracture were randomized to percutaneous vertebroplasty or conservative management. At 1 year, it was observed that percutaneous vertebroplasty offered quicker and greater pain relief in comparison to conservative treatment, at a justifiable expense.
