2024 COA Annual Meeting: AAGR vs. Bankart and Remplissage: A Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing Safety Profiles

One hundred fifty-three patients with recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation were randomized to receive either arthroscopic Bankart repair (n=80) or arthroscopic Bankart repair plus Arthroscopic Anatomic Glenoid Reconstruction (AAGR; n=73). The outcomes of interest included the incidence of intra-operative, perioperative, and postoperative complications within one year. Overall, the results of the study revealed that AAGR had a significantly lower rate of re-dislocation (1.4%) compared to the Bankart repair group (15%, p=0.003). No intra-operative or perioperative complications were reported in either group. This suggests that AAGR is as safe as Bankart repair while potentially offering better stability.
