Study Summary

Thirty participants were included in this double-blind, within-group, crossover study evaluating the dose-related effects of salvinorin A. Participants were administered an active dose of salvinorin A (1,017μg) and a presumed non-psychoactive placebo dose (100μg) over two sessions with a washout period of two weeks between sessions. Physiological effects were measured using heart rate, blood pressure, temperature and respiratory rate. Behavioural effects were assessed using the observer-based Monitor Rating Questionnaire (MRQ) and subjective drug effects were assessed using participant ratings on the Hallucinogen Rating Scale (HRS). Lasting drug effects were assessed in follow-up interviews at 8-weeks. Study results indicate that participants talked, laughed, and moved more often on an active dose. The active dose also indicated hallucinogenic experiences on all 6 subscales of the HRS. No significant adverse events were observed or reported by participants.
