Part 1: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Cemented Versus Uncemented Hemiarthroplasty for Displaced Femoral Neck Fracture .

Cemented versus uncemented hemiarthroplasty remains a critical debate in the treatment of displaced femoral neck fractures, particularly in older adults. The first part of this review looked at RCT evidence across 15 trials involving more than 4,200 patients. This found that cemented stems showed clear advantages in a few key areas. Most notably, cemented HA reduced 1-year mortality and substantially lowered the risk of periprosthetic fractures. Short-term mortality (30–180 days) and other complications—including dislocation, reoperation, wound infection, and thromboembolic events—were similar between groups. Taken together, the evidence suggests that cemented HA offers meaningful safety benefits without introducing additional risks, making it a strong option for this frail patient population.
