Reproducibility in Science: a Crisis in Confidence?

The scientific community is facing a growing crisis in reproducibility, with studies across disciplines—including cancer biology and clinical research—failing to replicate. Contributing factors include poor reporting, bias, selective publication, and weak statistical power. While clinical trials are more structured, even high-quality RCTs can overstate effects. Real-world data offers promise but reveals an “efficacy-effectiveness gap.” Improving reproducibility requires humility, transparency, and a long-term shift in research culture.
