Effect of Leukocyte Concentration in PRP Injections in Lateral Epicondylitis
The effect of leucocyte concentration of platelet-rich plasma on outcomes in patients with lateral epicondylitis: a systematic review and meta-analysis
J Shoulder Elbow Surg . 2022 Mar;31(3):634-645.Eleven randomized controlled trials evaluating either leukocyte-rich platelet-rich plasma (LR-PRP) or leukocyte-poor platelet-rich plasma (LR-PRP) compared to control injections in patients with lateral epicondylitis. The outcomes of interest were pain scores and clinical effectiveness. The LP-PRP group demonstrated no significant improvements in pain scores compared to control injections. The LR-PRP group demonstrated significantly greater reductions in pain compared to the control group at long-term follow-up. There was no difference in the proportion of patients who achieved treatment success in the LP-PRP group compared to the control group. However, patients who received LR-PRP were more likely to achieve treatment success compared to the control group.
