ARTHROPLASTY
Effect of Staples vs. Sutures on Surgical Site Infection in Elective Knee and Hip Arthroplasty .

Surgical site infection after wound closure with staples versus sutures in elective knee and hip arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Arthroplasty. 2022 Mar 4;4(1): 12.

Eight studies including a total of 1130 patients undergoing elective knee or hip arthroplasty were included in this meta-analysis comparing the effect of sutures and staples on surgical site infection. The risk of surgical site infection was not significantly different between the two groups in the primary analysis, however, in the sensitivity analysis of low risk of bias studies (n=2 studies) the risk of surgical site infection was significantly higher in the staple group. In the sub-group analysis by surgery type, a significantly higher risk of surgical site infection with stapling was observed in patients who underwent hip arthroplasty.
