Safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of low dose lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) in healthy older volunteers

OE Journal. 2022;10(11):30 Psychopharmacology (Berl). 2020 23-Feb;():. 10.1007/s00213-019-05417-7What this means for my practice?
Low doses of LSD carried no safety risk and were well-tolerated overall. Subjects in the LSD dose groups reported a greater number of headaches compared to placebo, however these headaches were mild in intensity. Additionally, there was a dose-dependent increase in vigilance reduction but there were no other effects of LSD on cognition. These results suggest that LSD administration is feasible and that further experiments can examine other effects of LSD safely.
Study Summary
Forty-eight healthy subjects underwent a phase one double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized study to test the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of various oral doses of LSD. Subjects were randomly assigned to one of three dose groups (5, 10, or 20 micrograms) or a placebo and received that dose every four days for a total of six doses. LSD was well-tolerated , with no higher frequency of adverse events than placebo. There were no impairments in cognition, balance and proprioception.
