Effectiveness of Multicomponent Home-Based Rehabilitation in Elderly Patients after Hip Fracture Surgery: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
J Pers Med. 2022 Apr 18;12(4): 649.Forty elderly patients who underwent hip fracture surgery were randomized to receive 8 weeks of a personalized multi-component home-based rehabilitation program (n=20) or 8 weeks of home-based exercise (n=20). The primary outcomes of interest were balance and mobility, measured using the functional reach test and timed up and go test. Secondary outcomes of interest included measures of muscle strength, pain, quality of life, activities of daily living, balance confidence, and depression. Outcomes were assessed at 4 and 8 weeks follow-up. Results demonstrated that the multi-component home-based rehabilitation program provided significantly greater improvement in functional reach test and timed up and go scores, as well as greater improvements in knee extensor strength and physical quality of life vs. home exercise.
