The chronic use of tricyclic antidepressants and lithium resulted in subjective increases in the effects of LSD, while the chronic use of MAO inhibitors resulted in subjective decreases in LSD effects.
Study Summary
In this retrospective cohort study, 10 patients who used LSD during a period of chronic (3 weeks or longer) antidepressant administration were asked to recall the effects of hallucinogens while on, and when not on antidepressants. A semi-structured interview with a standard questionnaire regarding the effects of LSD was used for all patients. Chronic use of tricyclic antidepressants and lithium was associated with increased responses to LSD, while patients with chronic monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors reported subjective decreases in LSD effects.
