Continuous adductor canal block vs continuous femoral nerve block for postoperative pain post TKA .
Continuous adductor canal block versus continuous femoral nerve block for postoperative pain in patients undergoing knee arthroplasty: An updated meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
PLoS One . 2024 Aug 1;19(8):e0306249.Eleven studies with a total of 748 patients undergoing knee arthroplasty were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing continuous adductor canal block (CACB) versus continuous femoral nerve block (CFNB). Pooled outcomes of interest included pain scores at rest and motion, quadriceps muscle strength, opioid consumption, time to discharge readiness, and risk of falls. The analysis revealed that both CACB and CFNB provided similar pain relief and opioid consumption, but CACB was significantly better at preserving quadriceps muscle strength and reduced discharge readiness time. These findings suggest that CACB offers comparable analgesia to CFNB while improving early functional recovery.
