Clinical Trials That Moved the Needle: Top Evidence Trends from 2023

This OE Insight highlights five landmark RCTs from 2023 that shifted orthopaedic practice. The OPAL trial found opioids ineffective for acute back/neck pain. BUCKLED showed ultrasound is non-inferior to X-rays for pediatric forearm fractures. INSITE challenged the superiority of intramedullary nails. WHiTE 8 found no benefit of dual-antibiotic cement. PREVENT CLOT supported aspirin as a cost-effective alternative to LMWH for thromboprophylaxis. Each trial pushes the field toward safer, more efficient care.
