Medical Cannabis for treatment of Chronic Non-Cancer Pain – What’s the state of the Evidence?
Cannabinoids as an option for chronic non-cancer pain has grown in interest alongside concerns about opioid-related harms. A broad review of randomized trials and comparative studies revealed diverse international research exploring oral, inhaled, and oromucosal formulations across conditions such as neuropathy, multiple sclerosis, and spinal cord injury. Findings were mixed: while many studies reported pain reduction, a substantial proportion showed no clear benefit, underscoring variability in treatment response and study quality. The evidence base remains heterogeneous, setting the stage for pooled analyses to better clarify the true analgesic effect.
