Dr. Tennant discusses the efficacy of mobile phones and devices in reviewing radiographs in orthopaedic practice.
This study was conducted to assess the reliability and validity of interpreting ankle fracture images viewed on a mobile device and a computer monitor. 16 x-ray images on ankle fractures were shown to orthopaedic surgeons (in which the order of the images were randomized) on both an Apple iPod Touch and a 23-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) computer monitor. After completing questionnaires to evaluate each image, it was revealed that there was a strong reliability for radiographic assessment of ankle injuries between both devices.
