Effect of compression therapy on knee swelling and pain after total knee arthroplasty
Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc. 2013 Feb;21(2):388-92. doi: 10.1007/s00167-012-1963-0. Epub 2012 Mar 2888 patients were randomized to determine the effectiveness of compression therapy following TKA. Patients either did or did not receive medical elastic compression stockings on the first postoperative day following surgery, and were evaluated based on knee swelling, pain, flexion, and function for 4 weeks postoperatively. The results indicated that there were no difference in any outcome between patients who received medical elastic compression stockings and those who did not.
