A meta-analysis of 14 randomized controlled trials was conducted to compare the effect of tourniquet use versus no tourniquet on infection during total knee arthroplasty. The outcomes assessed were superficial and deep infection, skin necrosis, skin blistering, transfusion rate, post-op hemoglobin drop, hospital stay, and deep vein thrombosis. Pooled analysis for the length of hospital stay, post-op hemoglobin drop, and total infection rate favoured no tourniquet use.
