Tourniquet use in total knee arthroplasty and the risk of infection: a meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials
J Exp Orthop. 2022 Jul 1;9(1):62.A meta-analysis of 14 randomized controlled trials was conducted to compare the effect of tourniquet use versus no tourniquet on infection during total knee arthroplasty. The outcomes assessed were superficial and deep infection, skin necrosis, skin blistering, transfusion rate, post-op hemoglobin drop, hospital stay, and deep vein thrombosis. Pooled analysis for the length of hospital stay, post-op hemoglobin drop, and total infection rate favoured no tourniquet use.
