The effect of preoperative steroid injection on pain and oedema after TKA. A randomized double-blinded controlled trial
86 patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive either intravenous dexamethasone or saline before surgery. The outcomes of interest included pain at rest and during walking on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels. Dexamethasone showed significantly better pain scores at rest and during walking with lower CRP levels, compared to the saline group.
