SICOT 2023: Lag Screws or Plates For The Treatment of Lateral Malleolar Fractures .
Plates deemed redundant in lag screws only constructs of lateral malleolar fractures
50 patients undergoing surgery for lateral malleolar fractures were randomized to receive either lag screws or a lateral plate. Outcomes of interest included quality of reduction, quality of union, Foot & Ankle Outcomes Questionnaire, and Core and Shoe Comfort Scale scores. The use of lag screws showed significantly better Core and Shoe Comfort Scale scores with the plate group presenting with higher complication rates.
