SICOT 2023: Operative vs Non-Operative Treatment of Mid-Shaft Clavicle Fractures .
Operative versus non-operative treatment of mid-shaft clavicle fractures in absence of absolute indications for ORIF, radiological and functional outcomes, a RCT
30 patients with mid-shaft clavicle fractures were randomized to receive either non-operative treatment (n=15) or operative treatment via open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF; n=15). Outcomes of interest included union rates, return to work, Constant-Murley scores, pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and the Shortened Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand questionnaire (QuickDASH). The ORIF group showed significantly better union rates and return to work. The results were similar between the two groups for all other outcomes.
