2023 SICOT Annual Meeting: Sinus Tarsi vs Lateral Extensile Approach in Fracture Calcaneus Sander II and III. A Randomized Controlled Trial

OE Journal. 2023;11(22):23180 patients with calcaneus fractures (Sanders II and III) were randomized to receive either the sinus tarsi (n=90) or extensile lateral (n=90) approach. Outcomes of interest included Bohler and Gissane angles, American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) scores, and wound complication rates. Both groups showed significant improvements in radiological outcomes but between group differences were comparable. The sinus tarsi approach showed significantly better clinical outcomes with a lower incidence of wound complications.
