Radiofrequency Denervation on Lumbar Facet Joint Pain in the Elderly: A Randomized Controlled Prospective Trial
Pain Physician. 2022 Nov;25(8):569-576.Two hundred and seventy patients with lumbar facet joint pain were randomized to receive a radiofrequency denervation intervention (n=135) or a conservative treatment program (drugs, physical exercise, and rehabilitation; n=135). The primary outcome of interest was pain on a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and the proportion of patients with a minimally important pain reduction. Secondary outcomes of interest included the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and the Macnab clinical efficacy evaluation. Results revealed superior results in all outcomes in the radiofrequency group vs. control up to 6 months post-treatment.
