Radiofrequency Ablation In Treating Patients with Chronic Knee Osteoarthritis: A Meta-Analysis .
Is radiofrequency ablation effective in treating patients with chronic knee osteoarthritis? A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Ann Med Surg (Lond) . 2023 Nov 17;86(1):412-420.Nine randomized controlled trials including 714 patients with chronic knee osteoarthritis were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing radiofrequency ablation (RFA) vs. control treatments. Pooled outcomes of interest included pain scores at 6 and 12 months and Western Ontario & McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scores at 6 and 12 months. The analysis revealed significant short-term pain reduction at 6 months for the RFA group, but the long-term efficacy at 12 months was uncertain. This suggests RFA is beneficial for short-term pain relief, but its long-term benefits need further investigation.
