RFA provides significant short-term pain relief for patients with chronic knee osteoarthritis, particularly when guided by positive diagnostic genicular nerve block tests. However, the long-term benefits of RFA are still uncertain and require further research. Clinicians should consider these findings when deciding on treatment options and be aware of the study's limitations, including inconsistent long-term data and potential biases in included studies.

Nine randomized controlled trials including 714 patients with chronic knee osteoarthritis were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing radiofrequency ablation (RFA) vs. control treatments. Pooled outcomes of interest included pain scores at 6 and 12 months and Western Ontario & McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scores at 6 and 12 months. The analysis revealed significant short-term pain reduction at 6 months for the RFA group, but the long-term efficacy at 12 months was uncertain. This suggests RFA is beneficial for short-term pain relief, but its long-term benefits need further investigation.
