Comparison of tibial nerve pulsed radiofrequency and intralesional radiofrequency thermocoagulation in the treatment of painful calcaneal spur and plantar fasciitis: a randomized clinical trial.

Forty-nine patients with painful calcaneal spurs and plantar fasciitis were randomized to receive ultrasound-guided tibial nerve pulsed radiofrequency (n=25) or fluoroscopy-guided intralesional radiofrequency thermocoagulation (n=24). The primary outcome was the change in pain intensity measured by the numeric rating scale (NRS). Secondary outcomes included the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) scores and procedure-related mild adverse events. Outcomes were assessed at one and three months post-treatment. Overall, both treatments resulted in significant pain reduction and functional improvement with no significant differences between groups. Both interventions were effective in managing heel pain, with mild, transient adverse events reported.
