Pulsed radiofrequency of lumbar dorsal root ganglion for lumbar radicular pain: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Pain Pract. 2024 01-Jun;():. 10.1111/papr.1335110 Randomized controlled trials including 613 patients with lumbar radicular pain were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing the effects of pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) applied to the lumbar dorsal root ganglion versus lumbar epidural injections (LEI). Pooled outcomes assessed pain scores and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores at 1, 3, and 6 months. Results showed that PRF provided superior pain relief at 3 months compared to LEI, though no significant differences in ODI were noted at any time point. The findings suggest PRF may have short-term analgesic benefits, but the evidence supporting functional improvement is weak.
