Effectiveness of myofascial release for adults with chronic neck pain: a meta-analysis.
Physiotherapy. 2024 01-Jun;():. 10.1016/j.physio.2023.12.002Ten studies including 549 patients with chronic neck pain were analyzed in this meta-analysis comparing myofascial release (MFR) to other treatments. The primary outcomes evaluated were pain reduction (measured by VAS) and ROM improvement; secondary outcomes included pressure pain threshold (PPT) and other functional parameters. MFR significantly reduced pain and improved right lateral flexion and right rotation compared to controls. No significant effects were noted for PPT. These findings suggest that MFR offers moderate benefits for managing chronic neck pain, though more robust and standardized research is needed.
