High Impact
This study has been identified as potentially high impact. OE's AI-driven High Impact metric estimates the influence a paper is likely to have by integrating signals from both the journal in which it is published and the scientific content of the article itself. Developed using state-of-the-art natural language processing, the OE High Impact model more accurately predicts a study's future citation performance than journal impact factor alone. This enables earlier recognition of clinically meaningful research and helps readers focus on articles most likely to shape future practice.

The effects of repeated intra-articular PRP injections on clinical outcomes of early osteoarthritis of the knee

Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc. 2015 Aug;23(8):2170-7.
Contributing Authors

A Gobbi D Lad G Karnatzikos

93 patients with early-stage osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee were randomized to receive either a single cycle of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment consisting of 3 injections, or to receive the same treatment plus an additional second cycle, repeated 1 year later. Patients were followed-up for a minimum of 2 years after initiation of treatment. The purpose of the study was to determine if annual repetition of the treatment resulted in pain reduction, improvement in quality of life or ability to participate in activities compared to a single course of injections. Results indicated a significant benefit to pain, activity level, and quality of life in the repeat injection group 18 months into treatment, although the differences were no longer significant at 24 months.
