Single High-Dose Systemic Methylprednisolone Administered Preoperatively Improves Pain Control and Sleep Quality After Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Double-Blind, Randomized Controlled Trial

Seventy patients undergoing primary total hip arthroplasty were randomized to receive either preoperative methylprednisolone (n=35) or placebo (n=35). Outcomes such as pain and sleep quality were assessed at 24 hours and 2 weeks postoperatively, respectively. Pain was measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and sleep quality using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Pain and sleep quality were statistically significant with better scores in the methylprednisolone group.
