2013 ISAKOS Congress : Patellar tendon v. quadriceps tendon for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction - A prospective and randomized study

60 patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) were randomized to determine the effect on anterior knee pain of quadriceps-tendon-bone autografts compared to bone-patellar tendon-bone autografts. Follow-up was conducted for two years postoperatively. Findings at the end of the study indicated that ACLR performed with the quadriceps-tendon resulted in significantly less functional anterior knee pain and sensibility loss, and was associated with similar knee stability and subjective clinical outcome to that of patellar-tendon grafts.
