Intra-articular hyaluronic acid compared with corticoid injections for the treatment of rhizarthrosis
Osteoarthritis Cartilage. 2006 Jan;14(1):82-8. Epub 2005 Oct 1956 patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the carpometacarpal (CMC) joint of the thumb (rhizarthrosis) were randomized to receive either an intervention treatment of intra-articular sodium hyaluronate (SH) or a triamcinolone acetonide (TA) corticoid injection. The primary outcomes were pain and function. Results indicated that the SH intervention resulted in positive and longer-lasting outcomes for pain relief and joint function. However, the SH intervention resulted in slower improvements than the TA treatment.
