Effectiveness of a 12-month home-based exercise program on trunk muscle strength and spine function after lumbar spine fusion surgery: a randomized controlled trial

Ninety-eight patients who underwent a lumbar spinal fusion surgery were randomized to receive a progressive, 12 month home-based exercise program (n=48) or a standard exercise program (n=50). Outcomes of interest included trunk strength and range of motion, spine function, and pain on movement. Results after 12 months of intervention revealed no significant differences in all outcomes between the progressive exercise and standard exercise groups.
