Effects of Golden Plaster on Knee Osteoarthritis: A Multicenter Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial
Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2022 Feb 2;2022: 4205648.Three hundred and twenty patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive traditional Chinese golden plaster (n=160) or placebo plaster (n=160) for 21 days. The outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), and the incidence of adverse events. Outcomes were assessed at 7, 14, and 21 days follow up. Results revealed significantly favourable VAS pain scores at all time-points and better WOMAC scores at 14 and 21 days in the golden plaster group. The incidence of skin allergy was higher in the treatment group.
