Outcomes of Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery With Home Guided Hand Therapy Versus No Hand Therapy: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial After Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release.

One hundred and five patients with carpal tunnel syndrome were randomized to receive either home hand therapy (n=50) or no therapy (n=55) following endoscopic carpal tunnel release surgery. The primary outcome of interest was the improvement in Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (QuickDASH) scores. Secondary outcomes included Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) functional status scale (FSS), BCTQ symptom severity scale (SSS), grip strength, pinch strength, numerical pain rating scale (NRS), static 2-point discrimination, and hand circumference. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, 2, 6, and 12 weeks postoperatively. Overall, the results of the study revealed no significant difference in the improvement of QuickDASH, BCTQ FSS, or BCTQ SSS scores between the two groups. The study suggests that home therapy exercises following surgery may not significantly benefit patients compared to no therapy.
