High-Voltage Pulsed Radiofrequency for Chronic Lumbosacral Radicular Pain .

Efficacy of High-Voltage Pulsed Radiofrequency of the Dorsal Root Ganglion for Treatment of Chronic Lumbosacral Radicular Pain: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Neuromodulation . 2024 Jan;27(1):135-140.

Forty-one patients with chronic lumbosacral radicular pain were randomized to receive high-voltage PRF treatment at 60 V (n=20) or low-voltage PRF treatment at 45 V (n=21). Outcomes of interest were the numeric rating scale (NRS) for pain, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores, and the safety and complication rates of the treatments. Outcomes were assessed before the intervention and at the first and sixth months after treatment. Overall, the results of the study revealed that both PRF treatments significantly reduced pain and disability scores, but the high-voltage PRF group had significantly lower NRS scores at six months. This suggests that high-voltage PRF may be more effective for long-term pain relief in chronic lumbosacral radicular pain without increasing complication rates.
