JAMA Psychiatry. 2021 14-Feb;():. 10.1001/jamapsychiatry.2020.3285Twenty-four participants with moderate to severe Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) episodes underwent a randomized trial to test the effects of psilocybin on MDD. Patients were randomly assigned to either an immediate treatment group or a delayed treatment control group, where patients did not receive psilocybin treatment for eight weeks. Both interventions contained two psilocybin sessions, lasted 8 weeks, and had a one-month follow-up. The primary outcome measure was depression severity, measured by the GRID-Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (GRID-HAMD). Compared to the delayed treatment group, participants who received immediate psilocybin therapy exhibited decreased GRID-HAMD scores one month after treatment.
