A team-based-learning approach for teaching complex practical skills: Boon or Bane?
118 second and third year medical students were administered 1 of 3 different methods of training to teach complex practical skills, in order to evaluate the efficacy of team-based-learning (TBL) against more established techniques of peer-teaching (PT), and doctor teaching. Participants were evaluated using a 9 item multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ) and a 1-station objective structured clinical examination (OSCE). The evidence presented in this conference report demonstrated that second and third year medical students undergoing TBL exhibited superior theoretical knowledge, and enhanced quality of learning when compared to PT or DT methods.
