Effect of an Integrated Physiotherapy Protocol on Knee Osteoarthritis Patients: A Preliminary Study.

Sixty-five patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive either an integrated physiotherapy protocol (n=32) or standard of care (n=33). The primary outcome of interest was pain scores on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes of interest included the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), 40-meter walk test, sit-to-stand test, stair climbing test, timed up and go (TUG), and the functional reach test. The integrated physiotherapy group showed significantly better scores in all outcomes except for the stair climb test, 40-meter fast-paced walk test, and the functional reach test. The control group showed better 40-meter walk test scores, whereas, there were no differences between the groups for the stair climb test and functional reach tests.
