Effects of Resistance and Balance Exercise in Patients with Osteoporotic Vertebral Fracture .
Effects of resistance and balance exercises for athletic ability and quality of life in people with osteoporotic vertebral fracture: Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized control trials.
Front Med (Lausanne). 2023 Mar 9;10:1135063.12 randomized controlled trials containing a total of 1,289 participants were included in this meta-analysis comparing balance and resistance training (n=666) to control (n=623). Pooled outcomes of interest included quality of life, functional reach test, pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), timed up and go (TUG) test, concern about falls, and kyphosis. Exercise treatment significantly improved quality of life scores, functional reach test, pain scores, TUG scores, concern with falls, and kyphosis compared to control. This was particularly the case for exercise programs longer than 10 weeks in duration. The benefit of balance and exercise training was largely independent of age.
