Comparison of intravenous ibuprofen and tenoxicam efficiency in ankle injury: a randomized, double-blind study.

124 patients with ankle injuries were randomized to receive either intravenous (IV) ibuprofen (n=62) or tenoxicam (n=62). Outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and the incidence of rescue medication, nausea, and burning sensation. Pain scores were significantly lower in the ibuprofen group at 30, 60, and 120 minutes after administration. Change in VAS scores were significantly better in the ibuprofen group at 30, 60, and 120 minutes. The need for rescue analgesics was significantly lower in the ibuprofen group, however, the incidence of nausea and burning sensations were similar between the two groups.
